KLV lime hydrator

Lime slaking solutions – proven, reliable and tailor-made

Premium hydrates are needed to an ever increasing extent in the building industry and other sectors, especially in the chemical industry. Why not profit from this rising demand? The Pfeiffer lime hydrator produces the perfect hydrate quality as required for high-quality building lime, plaster, and chemical lime. With our experience gained over decades and our extensive know-how, we are in a position to provide economical solutions to your lime slaking applications. In fact we conceive and build dry slaking plants for continuous operation and adapt the size of the plant to your particular production requirements. And of course our plants are state-of-the-art!

Advantages of the lime hydrator

Suited for any type of quicklime and other products

The Pfeiffer lime hydrators can process soft-burnt, medium-burnt, and hard-burnt quicklime. Apart from the lime hydrate production, the hydrators also serve to process other materials. During their production, quicklime was formed as an ingredient contained in these materials, for example as a result of a burning process, and such quicklime has to be transformed into hydrated lime before it can be further processed or put into stock. To be noted that materials containing even less than 10% of reactive CaO can be processed in the lime hydrator, for example calcined ore, converter dust, and fly ash from power stations and waste incineration facilities.

Fully automatic operation

Gravimetric quicklime feed, temperature-controlled water supply, and a sophisticated measuring technology ensure a fully automatic operation of the Pfeiffer lime hydrators.

Guaranteed residual moisture below 1%

Hence any further processing steps like separating, grinding, conveying, stocking, and packing can be performed reliably.

High product quality

Precise process control along with an accurate metering of slaking water ensures the production of a completely slaked finished product with minor residual moisture, high percentage of fines, and reduced agglomeration. However, if needed, the process can be controlled in a way as to produce high moisture rates in the hydrate, for example 25 to 30%.

Handling of different feed sizes

The feed material may be granular, i.e. up to about 20 mm, or finely ground.

No need for secondary slaking silos

The slaking process is fully completed in the lime hydrator.

Working principle

In the lime hydrator, quicklime fines or quicklime lumps turn into lime hydrate Ca(OH)2 after the addition of water at a temperature of approx. 100°C. The requested residual moisture of the hydrate is regulated by a temperature-controlled water supply and a variable material retention time. The vapors developing during hydration are dedusted. The filter is an integral part of the lime hydrator. Gravimetric quicklime feed, temperature-controlled water supply, and a sophisticated measuring technology ensure a fully automatic operation of the Pfeiffer lime hydrators .
