Pfeiffer products for limestone preparation

Simultaneous production of pulverized limestone and crushed limestone

Limestone is not only the main component in cement raw material. Owing to its particular characteristics, the separate grinding of limestone in our Pfeiffer machines has been a routine practice for well over 100 years. With our individual machines and plants, we fulfill the special requirements of this market. For example, our vertical roller mills can be equipped with a grit discharge so that it is possible to simultaneously produce limestone sand and pulverized limestone in one process. Pulverized limestone is used, among others, in desulfurization plants of coal fired power stations. The coarser fractions produced simultaneously are also used in power stations and additionally for the production of mortar and plaster, glass, and animal feed. Of course our portfolio also includes individual machines that offer solutions to any particular task.

Details on raw material

Like coal, mineral oil, and iron ore, limestone is one of the most important raw materials as can be seen from its wide range of applications: in the iron and steel industry, building materials and construction industries, chemical industry, and agriculture. Many products cannot be produced without limestone and also in terms of environment protection it is indispensable because it serves to bind harmful substances and transform them into new reusable products.

Our machines and processes for the lime industry

Crushed limestone

Limestone lumps are dried in Pfeiffer Triplex dryers, crushed in fast-running mills, dedusted in Pfeiffer separators and separated in screening machines for the production of crushed limestone sand (0-0.5 mm to 0-4 mm). Limestone filler is produced as a coupled product. The crushed limestone sand is primarily used in the building materials industry, limestone filler is used for road construction.

Pulverized limestone and limestone sand

Limestone lumps are ground, classified, and dried in Pfeiffer MPS vertical roller mills. The fineness of pulverized limestone can be set within a wide range (0.02 to 0.2 mm). If required, classifier grits can be evacuated for another classification in a downstream Pfeiffer separator and separated into limestone sands (0.1 to 1.5 mm) in screening machines. Pulverized limestone is used above all as filler and for flue gas desulfurization. Limestone sand is used in building materials.
